Paul George scored 31 points, while Kawhi Leonard added 22 as the Los Angeles Clippers secured a two-game victory over the Portland Trail Blazers, winning 125-117 on Friday night.
With a record of 44-25, the Clippers currently hold a 1 1/2-game lead over the New Orleans Pelicans for the fourth spot in the Western Conference playoffs. “We’re focused on our game,” George commented on the Pelicans. “Our main priority is playing well, and we’re in control. It’s all about us.”
Portland’s Scoot Henderson contributed 24 points and 10 assists in their fifth consecutive loss. However, they faced challenges with Deandre Ayton’s absence and Anfernee Simons’ departure due to a left knee injury during the third quarter.
Coach Chauncey Billups provided no updates on Simons’ condition post-game. The Clippers shot 42% from beyond the arc and maintained a 56% shooting accuracy. George made 10 out of 14 field goal attempts, while Leonard managed 9 out of 15.
“When you face a team like them, they’re bound to make shots,” Henderson acknowledged. “You have to handle it, move forward, and try to regain control. If they continue to make shots, you have to adapt.” The Clippers held their largest lead of 26 points, allowing Leonard and George to rest during the fourth quarter.
“I want us to focus and stay healthy,” Clippers coach Tyronn Lue emphasized. “The competition in the West is tough regardless of the opponent or location. Whether we start at home or on the road, it’s going to be challenging. So, our priority is maintaining good health.”
