Just over a week after team principal Christian Horner was absolved of any wrongdoing by Red Bull GmbH, Helmut Marko finds himself under scrutiny.
PlanetF1.com has learned that the investigation centers around multiple leaks of information to the media following the conclusion of the Christian Horner inquiry, including a leaked email purported to contain pertinent details.
Former F1 driver turned commentator Schumacher believes that Red Bull is now facing the consequences of a power vacuum created after the passing of Mateschitz in 2022, just a month after Porsche’s planned acquisition of a 50 percent stake in the F1 team fell through.
“Who could have anticipated such a turn of events?” he remarked to Sky Deutschland.
“You have to look back further. I know who could have anticipated it, but unfortunately, they are no longer with us. That’s why Mateschitz was insistent on his plan for Porsche to come in as a 50 percent shareholder because he foresaw such a scenario.
“In that regard, I believe Dr. Helmut Marko is disappointed himself because he was present and could have pursued that path. Then, we wouldn’t be facing this situation today.
“Since then, things have somewhat fallen apart.
“I wouldn’t want to be in the team’s position if suddenly Max’s father, Jos, and Dr. Marko can’t be involved anymore. I think that’s problematic, and it’s time for all parties to come together.
“There’s someone at the center of this (Christian Horner, according to a Sky Germany editor’s note) who is causing all this because he wants to exert full control. Whether that is beneficial remains uncertain.”
