Micah Parsons, a two-time All-Pro, and fellow pass rusher DeMarcus Lawrence might miss several games for the Dallas Cowboys after getting injured in their win against the New York Giants, according to two sources familiar with the injuries.
Parsons has a high ankle sprain, while Lawrence has a foot sprain, as reported to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because the team has not released injury details.
One source mentioned that Parsons is considered week to week, but Lawrence may be out for a longer period and is still being assessed.
Coach Mike McCarthy did not provide specific details about the injuries but indicated that Lawrence’s condition is worse than Parsons’. He expressed confidence that both players would return to play this season.
“I don’t have a specific timeline, but we’ll get into that probably a little deeper Monday,” McCarthy said. “I do know there will be second opinions involved in both of these guys. They are worse than we anticipated.”
Parsons got hurt in the fourth quarter when someone fell on his left leg while he was planting it. Lawrence left in the third quarter with his foot taped and did not return.
The Cowboys (2-2) are set to play the Pittsburgh Steelers on October 6 and then face the Detroit Lions at home on October 13, followed by their bye week. Missing both games would allow the players nearly a month to recover.
After the game, Parsons mentioned that X-rays taken at the stadium were negative, and an MRI was scheduled for Friday. Lawrence remained hopeful, stating, “It’s just a sprained foot, but I’ll be fine.”
Parsons and Lawrence are the Cowboys’ top pass rushers.
