The deadline of September 1 for renewing the football scheduling deal between the Mountain West, Washington State, and Oregon State has passed without an agreement. The conference announced on Monday that it expects to create next season’s schedules without including the Pac-12 schools.
This does not completely rule out the possibility of a new agreement, as the 12-team Mountain West usually does not release its football schedule until December at the earliest.
“For the 2025 season, the Mountain West and its member institutions are moving forward with their conference and nonconference schedules,” the league said in a statement.
Oregon State and Washington State are functioning as a two-team league this season and plan to do the same in 2025 after 10 Pac-12 schools moved to other major conferences this year.
To complete their football schedules, Washington State and Oregon State arranged to play six games against Mountain West teams that would not affect the conference standings. This deal earned the Mountain West about $14 million for this year.
At the time, the Mountain West and the Pac-12 schools mentioned the possibility of extending the agreement for another year by September 1, but they could not reach a deal.
Oregon State has seven football games scheduled for next season, including one against Washington State.
Washington State has six games scheduled, including its matchup against the Beavers. Major college football teams usually have 12 games in their regular seasons.
