According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah remains committed to playing in Europe’s top leagues despite significant interest from Saudi Arabia last summer, including a reported world-record bid of up to £215 million from Al-Ittihad (via GOAL).
Despite these offers, Liverpool firmly rejected them, with manager Jürgen Klopp asserting that Salah is not available for transfer. Salah’s current contract with Liverpool runs until 2025, prompting speculation about his future at Anfield.
During a Q&A session with The Athletic, Ornstein addressed questions about the possibility of Liverpool selling the Egyptian winger this summer. He stated (as quoted by Empire of the Kop):
“I’m not aware of any decision on that yet. I believe Liverpool would prefer to extend Salah’s contract, but ultimately, that decision lies with him. If Salah decides not to renew, then all parties involved will need to consider whether he enters the final year of his contract or if a sale is the best option (depending on offers).”
He further commented:
“The strong interest from Saudi Arabia last summer suggests they may attempt to sign him again in the upcoming transfer window. However, there have been indications that Salah is keen to continue playing at the highest level in Europe. We will need to remain patient regarding this matter.”
Salah has been in impressive form for Liverpool this season, contributing 18 goals and nine assists in 27 appearances across all competitions.
