The Detroit Lions might be facing a possible letdown.
The Lions (5-1) are set to host the struggling Tennessee Titans (1-5) on Sunday, coming off a thrilling win against Minnesota that put them in a tie for first place in the NFC North. After playing the Titans, the Lions will travel to face division rival Green Bay.
However, Lions guard Graham Glasgow emphasized that the Titans have his attention because of their strong defense.
“It makes it easy to avoid overlooking them, at least on our side of the ball, because their defense is statistically really good,” Glasgow said. “It’s not like you’re going up against like a Rutgers.”
Even with their solid defense, the Titans have only one win, which came at Miami nearly a month ago, partly because they are averaging just 15 points in their five losses.
In contrast, the Lions have averaged 40 points over their last three games, with quarterback Jared Goff performing exceptionally well.
Goff has achieved a passer rating of 140 or higher in three straight games. Only three other players in NFL history have done this: Aaron Rodgers in 2011, Kurt Warner in 1999, and Roger Staubach in 1971.
If Goff can maintain that level of efficiency, he could become the first player to achieve a passer rating of 140 or better in four consecutive games.
He doesn’t expect it to be easy against the Titans.
“This defense is as good as any defense we’ve played up to this point, and we know that,” he said. “I’m not just blowing smoke or anything. I know their record doesn’t show that, but it’s a good defense. They’re solid at every level, and we’ve got our work cut out for us for sure.”
