In the decisive inning, Ramírez’s throwing error to third base allowed Justyn-Henry Malloy to score the winning run after Wenceel Pérez’s sacrifice bunt advanced the runners. Earlier in the inning, Ramírez failed to field Ryan Vilade’s bunt, which set up Malloy’s scoring position.
The Dodgers’ manager, Dave Roberts, acknowledged that a mistake in a 0-2 pitch to Zach McKinstry resulted in a leadoff triple, which led to the Tigers’ decisive runs.
Ramírez, who also struggled in the previous game, surrendered two runs and three hits in his inning of work, taking the loss. Alex Faedo earned the win for Detroit after closing out the top of the ninth.
The Dodgers, typically strong when leading after eight innings with a 48-2 record, have now lost two such games in Detroit, ending their first half of the season on a frustrating note.
