On Friday night, the Detroit Tigers were working on a combined no-hitter until Gunnar Henderson hit a two-out triple for Baltimore in the ninth inning.

Henderson drove the first pitch from Tyler Holton down the right field line for his seventh triple of the season. Holton then struck out Anthony Santander for the final out, securing Detroit’s 1-0 win.

Before the triple, Detroit pitchers Beau Brieske and Brant Hurter had retired 21 straight batters. Adley Rutschman broke the streak with an eight-pitch walk to start the eighth inning.

Brieske, a 26-year-old right-hander, was expected to start as an opener. He retired four batters and threw 11 of 16 pitches for strikes.
