The Detroit Tigers have added right-hander Jackson Jobe to their roster to strengthen their chances of making the playoffs for the first time in ten years.
Detroit announced the move on Monday, just a day before starting a homestand with three games against Tampa Bay and three against the Chicago White Sox.
Jobe, a 22-year-old from Oklahoma City, was drafted third overall by the Tigers in 2021 right out of high school and is considered one of the top prospects in baseball.
While he has been a starter in the minors, manager A.J. Hinch will likely use him in the bullpen for the Tigers.
Detroit (82-74) was eight games under .500 on August 10, but their late-season push, which includes winning 11 of their last 14 games, has put them in an AL wild-card spot, one game ahead of the Minnesota Twins.
The Tigers are assured of finishing the regular season with a winning record for the first time since 2016.
