Joey Bart, who was once seen as Buster Posey’s likely successor as the San Francisco Giants’ catcher, was removed from the team’s roster on Sunday.

San Francisco made this decision to create space for 28-year-old right-hander Daulton Jefferies, who started against San Diego in his first major league game since May 18, 2022, with Oakland.

Now 27 years old, Bart was chosen by the Giants with the second pick in the 2018 amateur draft.

He played in 162 games over four seasons with San Francisco, batting .219 in 457 at-bats with 11 home runs and 38 RBIs, along with 178 strikeouts.

Before this move, San Francisco already had two other catchers on the roster: Patrick Bailey and Tom Murphy. Jefferies was called up from Triple-A Sacramento.
