Missouri Governor Mike Parson’s decision to commute the sentence of former Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid, son of head coach Andy Reid, has stirred significant controversy.

Responding to the criticism, Parson’s office stated ESPN.com, asserting, “No request, official or otherwise, was made on behalf of Mr. Reid for this commutation.” The office declined further comment on the matter.

Critics argue that Reid’s high-profile status likely influenced the commutation decision. Attorney Tom Porto, representing the young girl injured in the accident caused by Reid’s impairment, remarked, “It’s because the Governor of Missouri is a Chiefs fan, went to the Super Bowl, went to the after parties, went to the parade and the rally and even has a Chiefs tattoo.”

Reid’s original three-year prison sentence was reduced to house arrest, extending until October 31, 2025.

Many observers perceive Parson’s action as a gesture to the two-time defending Super Bowl champions, a move made evident by his current low-profile stance on the matter, hoping the controversy will eventually fade away.
