The Houston Astros made a last-minute change to their starting lineup on Monday when All-Star pitcher Framber Valdez couldn’t play due to a sore left elbow. This forced Blair Henley, a rookie, to step in for his first Major League Baseball game. Unfortunately, Henley struggled, allowing the opposing team, the Texas Rangers, to score five runs in a row.
Despite this setback, the Astros’ bullpen stepped up and delivered an impressive performance, holding the Rangers scoreless for the rest of the game. Eventually, the Astros rallied and secured a 10-5 victory, ensuring a split in the four-game series.
Valdez’s condition isn’t considered too serious, as he reported only mild discomfort. He’s scheduled for further evaluation by team doctors.
Meanwhile, Henley, though disappointed with his debut performance, remained positive and grateful for the opportunity to play close to his hometown.
To accommodate Henley’s debut, the Astros designated pitcher Miguel Díaz for assignment. Valdez, who had a solid start to the season with a 2.19 ERA in two games, is expected to return once he recovers from his elbow issue.
