Jake Meyers hit an RBI double as the Houston Astros defeated the Miami Marlins 6-3 on Thursday night, finishing a three-game sweep and securing their ninth consecutive home win.

“We executed well and came through with key hits when we needed them,” said manager Joe Espada. “Our pitching was solid at the start and finish, and we executed our game plan.”

Houston, now 49-44, has won nine of their last 12 games overall.

“We’ve shown resilience and made significant progress,” Espada added. “I never doubted that we would bounce back and get back into contention.”

Jake Bloss, making his second start in the majors after returning from injury, allowed four hits and two runs over four innings for the Astros. Tayler Scott (6-2) earned the win by pitching two outs in the sixth inning, and Josh Hader closed with a scoreless ninth for his 17th save.

Bryan De La Cruz and Jazz Chisholm Jr. each hit solo home runs for the Marlins, who currently rank last in the National League and suffered their eighth sweep of the season.

Miami’s rookie pitcher Roddery Muñoz (1-4) gave up five hits and six runs (four earned) over 6 2/3 innings, also recording two wild pitches and a balk.

“He did a good job of minimizing the damage when they had runners on base,” commented manager Skip Schumaker. “He kept us in the game despite some tough situations.”

The Marlins took an early lead in the first inning with De La Cruz’s home run, but Houston responded quickly, tying the game in the bottom half with a sacrifice fly by Jon Singleton after Alex Bregman’s walk and Yainer Diaz’s double.
