Former All-Pro cornerback Tre’Davious White is now part of the Los Angeles Rams. White has agreed to a deal worth $8.5 million for one year with the Rams, who are making changes to their secondary. This area of the defense was seen as a weak point last season. Reports suggest that White’s contract could potentially reach $10 million.

Before joining the Rams, White played for the Buffalo Bills for seven seasons. He was named an AP All-Pro in 2019 and made the Pro Bowl twice while with Buffalo. However, injuries limited his playing time over the past two seasons.

In 2021, White suffered a knee ligament tear and didn’t return until November 2022. Then, in Week 4 of the following season, he tore his Achilles tendon, forcing him to sit out the rest of the 2023 season.

The addition of White marks the third significant move by the Rams to strengthen their secondary during free agency. They also acquired safety Kamren Curl from Washington and re-signed Darious Williams, who previously played for Jacksonville before winning the Super Bowl with the Rams.

Despite the retirement of Aaron Donald, the Rams have not signed any defensive linemen during free agency. However, they did re-sign backup lineman Larrell Murchison. The defense will be under the guidance of new defensive coordinator Chris Shula.

White had been a starter for the Bills since his rookie season after being drafted in the first round from LSU in 2017. During his time in Buffalo, he started all 82 games, making 18 interceptions and recovering five fumbles.

Last season, the Rams were not as active in strengthening their secondary. Despite losing key players like Jalen Ramsey and Taylor Rapp in free agency, they only made late additions. However, those additions, like Ahkello Witherspoon and John Johnson, played important roles in the Rams’ season.

Young cornerbacks Derion Kendrick and Cobie Durant, who were late-round draft picks, started a combined 21 games last season. But with the arrival of White and the retention of Williams, they are likely to return to backup roles.
