The Los Angeles Angels made a move on Monday by placing right-handed pitcher Chase Silseth on the 15-day injured list due to inflammation in his right elbow.

Silseth, who is 23 years old, has struggled in his first two outings of the season. He has given up six runs on eight hits and four walks in a total of eight innings, resulting in an ERA of 6.75.

His most recent performance against Boston on Sunday saw him allow three runs on three hits and two walks while striking out seven over five innings. Following this game, he informed the Angels’ training staff about the pain in his elbow.

Silseth, holding a record of 0-1 this season, secured a spot in the Angels’ starting rotation during spring training.

This marks his third year in the major leagues, where he has posted a record of 5-5 with a 5.06 ERA across 25 appearances, including 17 starts.

To fill Silseth’s spot in the rotation, José Soriano will take over starting from Wednesday’s series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays. Soriano made his major league debut last season and has since been a regular fixture as a setup reliever for the Angels.

He previously served as a starter in the Angels’ minor league system from 2016 to 2019 before undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2020. Despite facing setbacks with a second Tommy John surgery in 2021, Soriano recovered and earned a place in the big leagues as a reliever.
