The LA Chargers are facing a challenging situation at quarterback. Justin Herbert is currently wearing a walking boot due to a plantar fascia injury, and the backup options are not very promising.
Backup Easton Stick played the whole first half in the preseason opener against the Seattle Seahawks but had a poor performance.
Herbert is expected to be back before the regular season starts, but this kind of injury can be tricky. He might need to play through pain if he returns for Week 1, and there’s always a risk of making the injury worse.
While the situation is not serious enough to be concerned about Herbert’s entire season, the Chargers might need to manage without their star quarterback for a few games. If that happens, the team will need a better quarterback than Stick to stay competitive.
Ryan Tannehill is one option, but he might prefer a more stable situation with a team whose quarterback is out for the whole season. If Tannehill isn’t an option, the Chargers might look at quarterbacks from teams with an excess of them, such as the Cleveland Browns.
