The Minnesota Twins placed Carlos Correa, their All-Star shortstop, on the injured list Saturday due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot. This move aims to give him the rest he didn’t have last season when dealing with the same issue in his other foot.

Starting pitcher Chris Paddack was also placed on the injured list because of a right forearm strain. This decision came after he felt tightness during the break.

To fill the roster spots, utility player Austin Martin returned from the IL after recovering from a right oblique strain. Additionally, second baseman Edouard Julien was called up from Triple-A St. Paul. Despite the team’s five-day break, injuries have continued to challenge the Twins.

Infielders Royce Lewis (strained right groin), Jose Miranda (strained lower back), and Kyle Farmer (strained right shoulder) remain sidelined, along with other players on longer recovery schedules.

Correa missed the All-Star Game earlier in the week due to his foot condition, for which he had a platelet-rich plasma injection during the break. He’ll need to wear a walking boot for a few days.

Manager Rocco Baldelli expects Correa’s absence to be shorter than a month. The team faces a decision on when to bring him back, considering his performance struggles last year while playing through a similar injury.

This season, Correa has been impressive with a .308 batting average, an .896 OPS, 13 home runs, 47 RBIs, and 51 runs scored in 75 games.

In the meantime, Willi Castro, also an All-Star this year, will take over as the main shortstop. Rookie Brooks Lee will play third base in place of Lewis, and Julien returns to second base after starting the season there but struggling initially. In his first stint, Julien batted .207 with seven home runs and 17 RBIs in 58 games.
