The Minnesota Vikings reached an agreement on Tuesday for a four-year contract extension with left tackle Christian Darrisaw, valued at up to $113 million. This marks another significant investment in a key player for the team.

Darrisaw, selected 23rd overall in the 2021 draft from Virginia Tech, will remain with the Vikings through the 2029 season, adding onto his existing rookie contract.

His agent Drew Rosenhaus stated that Darrisaw will receive $77 million guaranteed, with $43.7 million paid upon signing. Negotiations were handled by Rosenhaus, along with his brother Jason Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey.

This new deal positions Darrisaw among the top earners among NFL offensive tackles, depending on how contract values are compared. Recently, Detroit’s Penei Sewell signed a similar four-year extension worth $112 million.

In the 2023 season, Darrisaw achieved the third-highest pass block grade among offensive linemen who played at least half of their team’s offensive snaps, according to Pro Football Focus. Additionally, in 2022, he was ranked as the second-best offensive tackle overall by PFF, just behind Trent Williams of the San Francisco 49ers.

The Vikings are scheduled to hold their first full practice on Wednesday. In addition to Darrisaw’s extension, the Vikings signed cornerback Duke Shelley on Tuesday to bolster depth at a position affected by the loss of rookie Khyree Jackson.

Shelley, a veteran with six years of experience, played for the Vikings in 2022, contributing 31 tackles, an interception, and eight passes defended in 11 games. Last season, he played for the Los Angeles Rams.
