On Monday, the Minnesota Wild signed goaltender Jesper Wallstedt to a two-year contract extension worth $4.4 million.

This deal provides their valued prospect with some security while he waits behind experienced players Marc-Andre Fleury and Filip Gustavsson.

The 21-year-old Wallstedt started three games for Minnesota last season and spent the rest of his time in the AHL.

He recorded a record of 22 wins, 19 losses, and 6 overtime losses, with a 2.70 goals against average and a .910 save percentage in 45 games for the Iowa Wild.

Wallstedt was the team’s first-round draft pick in 2021, coming from Vasteras, Sweden.

With Fleury and Gustavsson still on the team, it’s uncertain how much playing time Wallstedt will get this season. However, the Wild have shown interest in keeping three goaltenders for now. Minnesota will start the season at home against Columbus on Thursday.
