Oregon State offensive lineman Taliese Fuaga is a big fan of actor Adam Sandler and his movie “The Waterboy.” Standing at 6 feet 6 inches tall and weighing 324 pounds, he’s watched the film many times.

It seems like fate that he ended up with the New Orleans Saints in Louisiana for his NFL career, even though the reasons the Saints drafted him were serious.

The Saints picked Fuaga as the 14th overall selection in the NFL Draft on Thursday. They added him to their offensive line, which needs more players, especially at tackle.

Saints coach Dennis Allen said, “We needed an offensive tackle, and we’re excited about Taliese. He’s big, athletic, and very physical. We think he’s the kind of person we want on our team.”

Trevor Penning, who was picked in the first round in 2022, couldn’t hold onto his starting position at left tackle last season. His replacement, Andrus Peat, is currently a free agent.

Right tackle Ryan Ramczyk’s health is uncertain after he had surgery for a knee injury. James Hurst, a versatile lineman who can play guard and tackle, has decided to retire.

Fuaga wasn’t sure if he could have an NFL career until recently. He used to see football as just a sport he enjoyed playing. He also played basketball when he was younger but often fouled out because “basketball was not my sport.”

During his college season, Fuaga didn’t allow any sacks. His performance against UCLA’s star defensive end Laiatu Latu caught the attention of NFL scouts.
