The New York Giants have re-signed cornerback Adoree’ Jackson, who has been with the team for the past three seasons.
This move on Saturday brings a seasoned player to the Giants’ defensive backfield, which is mostly young and inexperienced at the cornerback position as the regular season starts.
To make space for Jackson, the Giants released tight end/fullback Jakob Johnson.
Jackson, who is 28 years old, started 14 games last season for the Giants and scored a touchdown by returning an interception 76 yards. He has 77 career starts, which is nearly twice as many as the five other main cornerbacks on the current roster, including Deonte Banks (15 starts), Cor’Dale Flott (13), Nick McCloud (11), Tre Hawkins III (3), and rookie Dru Phillips.
Flott was expected to start opposite Banks but has just returned after missing a few weeks due to a quadriceps injury. McCloud had been filling in for Flott, but Jackson should return to his starting position when he is ready.
Jackson joined the Giants as a free agent before the 2021 season after spending his first four NFL seasons with Tennessee. Over three seasons with New York, he has started 36 of 37 games and recorded 176 tackles, two interceptions, 23 passes defensed, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and three tackles for loss.
Jackson also has a lot of experience with Giants defensive coordinator Shane Bowen, who was the Titans’ outside linebackers coach for three of Jackson’s seasons with Tennessee.
