The New York Jets are set to acquire offensive tackle Morgan Moses from the Baltimore Ravens in a trade deal that involves draft picks for both teams, according to a person familiar with the agreement who spoke to The Associated Press.
This move reunites Moses with the Jets after his 2021 stint with New York.
As part of the trade, the Jets will also gain the Ravens’ fourth-round pick (No. 134 overall), while New York will send its fourth-rounder (No. 112) and a sixth-rounder to Baltimore. The details were disclosed to the AP on condition of anonymity as trades and free agent signings await official confirmation when the new league year begins at 4 p.m. EDT Wednesday.
ESPN was first to report on the deal between the Jets and Ravens.
At 33 years old, Moses brings experience and strength to the Jets’ offensive line, which faced challenges with consistency and productivity last season.
Expected to assume the role of the starter at right tackle, Moses will join center Joe Tippmann and guards Alijah Vera-Tucker and John Simpson, the latter being a former Ravens teammate who recently agreed to terms on a two-year deal with the Jets.
With the No. 10 overall pick in the upcoming draft, the Jets could be eyeing a left tackle. Given that Mekhi Becton and Duane Brown are set to become free agents and are unlikely to return, Moses’s arrival adds depth to the line.
Originally drafted by Washington, Moses spent his first seven NFL seasons there before joining the Jets as a free agent in 2021. Although he played all 17 games, starting 16, during his season with the Jets, he then signed a three-year deal with Baltimore.
Having started 31 games over the past two seasons with the Ravens, Moses has contributed to blocking for Lamar Jackson.
Now, he’s poised to play a pivotal role in a unit tasked with protecting Aaron Rodgers, who suffered a torn left Achilles tendon just four snaps into his debut last season. Rodgers is expected to be fully recovered in time for the start of training camp in July, and general manager Joe Douglas has made enhancing the offensive line a top priority this offseason.
