Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets have welcomed a new offensive weapon into their fold. Former Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams inked a one-year contract with the Jets on Tuesday, just six days after parting ways with Los Angeles.

The 29-year-old Williams, after visiting the Jets’ facility and reportedly having meetings scheduled with other teams, opted to commit to New York. According to NFL Network and ESPN, the contract could potentially reach up to $15 million.

In an intriguing turn, the Jets shared a video on X (formerly Twitter) showing Williams enjoying a Taylor ham, egg, and cheese sandwich — a quintessential New Jersey breakfast treat. This video surfaced shortly after a fan had sent the sandwich to the Jets’ facility from a local diner, seemingly as an enticement for Williams to sign.

“It’s good!” chuckled Williams. “This is what got the deal signed right here.”

Following this whimsical moment, the Jets updated their profile picture to showcase an image of the sandwich, complete with a bite taken out by Williams.

Amidst New York’s offseason objectives, securing a wide receiver to complement Garrett Wilson stood out. Williams’ addition adds firepower to what promises to be a revamped offense this season as the Jets aim to shake off their previous struggles.

With Rodgers anticipated to make a full recovery from a left Achilles tendon tear suffered early in his debut for New York, the team bolstered their offensive line by adding Tyron Smith, John Simpson, and Morgan Moses.

Despite Williams carrying some injury concerns, including a recent ACL tear, the Jets are banking on his potential impact. His previous performance before the injury showcased his prowess, hauling in 19 receptions for 249 yards and a touchdown.

With a history of big plays — boasting 22 receptions of at least 40 yards since 2019 — the Jets envision Williams as a key asset in stretching the field and providing a red zone threat, thus alleviating some of the focus on Wilson.

With the addition of Williams, the Jets now boast a clearer No. 2 wide receiver option alongside Allen Lazard, Xavier Gipson, and tight ends Tyler Conklin and Jeremy Ruckert. Coupled with running back Breece Hall’s contributions in the passing game, the Jets’ aerial attack appears poised for improvement in the upcoming season.
