Jackson Holliday will not start playing for the Baltimore Orioles just yet. The Orioles said on Friday that Holliday will go back to their minor league camp, which means he won’t be on the major league team when the season starts.
Holliday, who is 20 years old, is the son of Matt Holliday, a former seven-time All-Star outfielder. He is seen as one of the best young players in baseball.
Orioles’ general manager Mike Elias said Holliday is very close to being ready for the majors. He did well during spring training games.
But Elias thinks Holliday should get more experience playing in Triple-A before joining the big leagues.
Holliday played great in spring training, hitting two home runs and getting six RBIs in 14 at-bats. Last season, he did well in the minor leagues, hitting .323 with 12 home runs and 24 stolen bases.
The Orioles have until April 11 to decide if they want to bring Holliday to the major league team. If they do, it could help them get a better draft pick next year.
