The Baltimore Ravens have a knack for making impactful late offseason additions, and expectations are high for Eddie Jackson, their newly signed veteran safety.
“We often bring in experienced players who make a big difference for us during the season,” noted All-Pro safety Kyle Hamilton on Tuesday. “Having Eddie join us is going to be crucial.”
Last year, the Ravens added Jadeveon Clowney in August and Kyle Van Noy in late September, and together they totaled 18 1/2 sacks. In 2021, Justin Houston was signed around the beginning of training camp and contributed 14 sacks over the next two seasons. Now, 30-year-old Jackson arrives after spending seven years with the Chicago Bears.
“It just felt like the perfect fit,” Jackson remarked. “Knowing the team’s culture and tradition, I felt it was ideal for me to come in, compete, and contribute to the team’s success, aiming for a Super Bowl.”
Jackson earned All-Pro honors in 2018 and made consecutive Pro Bowl appearances in 2018 and 2019. Since entering the league in 2017, he is one of only three defensive backs with double-digit interceptions (15) and forced fumbles (10), alongside Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey and former Ravens cornerback Marcus Peters.
Jackson and Humphrey were teammates at Alabama, and Jackson, who hails from South Florida, grew up near Baltimore’s star quarterback Lamar Jackson.
“We’re both Jacksons, so I almost consider him family,” Eddie Jackson quipped. “Being on the same team with him feels special. Seeing what he brings to the game and how everyone rallies around him is truly remarkable.”
