The Seattle Mariners and outfielder Victor Robles agreed to a $9.75 million, two-year contract on Monday, keeping him with the team through the 2026 season.

“Since joining the Mariners, Victor has been a dynamic presence on the field and a great fit in our clubhouse. He has showcased the ability to impact the game in all phases,” Seattle general manager Justin Hollander said in a statement. “We are thrilled to have him in the organization for at least two more years.”

The contract also includes a $9 million option for 2027. Robles could have become a free agent this fall.

Robles has been impressive for the Mariners since he signed on June 4, just three days after being released by Washington. Initially, the 27-year-old had trouble getting playing time, but once he joined the lineup, he became an important part of the Mariners’ push for the postseason.

Robles, known for his speed, is hitting .303 with seven doubles and three home runs in 42 games since joining the Mariners.

He has also performed well as their main center fielder for the past three weeks while Julio Rodríguez was out with an ankle injury.

This signing also provides Seattle with some stability for their outfield next season. It is expected to include Robles, Rodríguez, and Randy Arozarena, who was acquired from Tampa Bay before the July 30 trade deadline.

Once a top prospect with the Nationals, Robles played only 36 games last season and struggled at the start of this year. He hit .120 in 14 games before being designated for assignment on May 27. Shortly after, Seattle quickly gave Robles another chance and signed him for the rest of the season.

Robles’ role became even more important when Rodríguez suffered a high ankle sprain on July 21. Robles has started in center field 17 times in the 18 games since then, and even though Rodríguez has returned from the injured list, Robles is likely to continue playing center field for the foreseeable future.
