Former Clemson receiver Diondre Overton was shot and killed at a party in Greensboro, North Carolina, according to the Guilford County Sheriff’s Department.
The department stated that deputies found the 26-year-old Overton after responding to a report of a loud disturbance at the party.
Despite receiving medical assistance, Overton was pronounced dead at the scene.
The sheriff’s department is currently conducting an open homicide investigation.
Overton, who was from Greensboro, played at Clemson from 2016 to 2019 and was part of two national championship teams. He appeared in 51 games, catching 52 passes for 777 yards and seven touchdowns.
“So senseless and just a beautiful, young life cut short at 26,” said coach Dabo Swinney on Saturday night after the Tigers’ win over Appalachian State. “But man, I love DeAndre Overton.”
