Jordan Kyrou scored the game-winning goal in the third period as the St. Louis Blues beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2 on Tuesday, in a match that saw a concerning injury.
Blues forward Dylan Holloway was struck in the neck by a puck late in the first period. He finished his shift but needed medical help on the bench.
Holloway was later taken off the ice on a stretcher and taken to the hospital for further evaluation. The team later confirmed that he was alert and in stable condition.
Oskar Sundqvist and Alexey Toropchenko also scored for the Blues, who earned their second consecutive victory.
Jordan Binnington made 21 saves in the win, earning his 149th career victory with the Blues, moving him past Jake Allen into second place on the team’s all-time wins list. Mike Liut holds the record with 151 wins.
For the Lightning, Nick Perbix and Victor Hedman scored, and Nikita Kucherov had two assists. Goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy made 20 saves, as Tampa Bay lost their third straight game.
Tampa Bay started strong, keeping the Blues without a shot for the first nine minutes and outshooting them 9-3 in the scoreless first period.
Perbix gave the Lightning a 1-0 lead with a great move around defenseman Matthew Kessel just 2:39 into the second period. He slid the puck under Binnington and then poked it into the net for his first goal.
Sundqvist tied the game at 1-1 when he scored off the rebound of Kessel’s slap shot from the center point at 7:57 in the second.
With 1:35 left in the second, Toropchenko put the Blues ahead 2-1 by converting a pass from Radek Faksa for a close-range goal.
Kyrou extended the Blues’ lead to 3-1 with 11:09 remaining in the third period. He sped up the right wing and scored from Brayden Schenn’s pass during a three-on-one rush.
Hedman scored from the left point to make it 3-2 with 8:17 left, but the Lightning couldn’t get another goal even with their goalie pulled for an extra attacker.
