St. Louis Cardinals center fielder Dylan Carlson will start the season on the injured list due to a sprained left shoulder, announced president of baseball operations John Mozeliak on Tuesday.
Carlson got hurt during a collision with right fielder Jordan Walker on Monday. Prospect Victor Scott will take over as the center fielder for the opening day.
This injury adds to the challenges for the Cardinals’ outfield. Tommy Edman, who was supposed to play in center field, is also on the injured list because of a wrist injury. Left fielder Lars Nootbaar is sidelined with fractured ribs.
During spring training, Carlson stood out for the Cardinals, leading the team with three home runs and 13 RBIs while Edman was out.
