The Miami Marlins, who haven’t won any games yet this season, faced their ninth straight defeat on Saturday, losing 3-1 against the St. Louis Cardinals led by Steve Matz.
St. Louis players Iván Herrera and Brendan Donovan both got two hits each. Jordan Walker contributed with an RBI double.
Matz, with a record of 2-0, gave up four hits in five innings without letting any runs score. Ryan Helsley closed the game and earned his third save.
Miami’s Trevor Rogers (0-1) allowed three runs, two of which were earned, along with five hits during his five innings of pitching. He struck out three batters and walked three.
The Marlins, currently at 0-9, are the only team in Major League Baseball without a win. The New York Mets, after losing their first seven games, finally won 2-1 against the Detroit Tigers on Thursday.
The Baltimore Orioles hold the record for the worst start to a season in MLB history, with 21 losses at the beginning of the 1988 season.
Miami has now lost ten consecutive games, including the last three games of the previous season. They’ve struggled particularly at Busch Stadium, losing 13 of their last 16 games there.
