The Tampa Bay Rays have decided to pick up their $10.5 million club option on Brandon Lowe after he led the team with 21 home runs this season.

The Rays made this announcement on Friday.

Lowe, who is 30 years old, finished the season with a batting average of .244 and 58 RBIs in 107 games during his seventh year with the team. He also topped the Rays in runs scored (56), slugging percentage (.473), and OPS (.784).

“Since debuting in 2018, his productivity at second base has been among the league’s best and we look forward to his continued success with us next season,” said Erik Neander, Rays president of baseball operations, in a statement.

In March 2019, Lowe signed a $24 million, six-year contract with Tampa Bay, which includes options for the 2025 and 2026 seasons.

Lowe was selected in the third round of the 2015 amateur draft after playing at the University of Maryland. He has a career batting average of .245, with 126 home runs—including a personal best of 39 in 2021—and 363 RBIs in 611 games with the Rays.
