The Kansas City Chiefs have found a winning charm in superstar singer Taylor Swift, as they remain undefeated when she graces their games with her presence. Head coach Andy Reid is more than happy to have her stick around for as long as she pleases, especially with star tight end Travis Kelce putting up some of his best performances while under the pop sensation’s watchful eye.
In the Chiefs’ recent 31-17 victory, Kelce was nothing short of phenomenal, making 12 receptions for 179 yards and a touchdown. All the while, Swift, donned a Chiefs sweatshirt, enthusiastically cheered him on from a suite. After the game, Reid playfully commented on Kelce’s continuous improvement, attributing it to what has now become known as the “Taylor Swift effect.”
“Kelce keeps getting better with time. Taylor can stay around all she wants,” quipped the Super Bowl-winning head coach, drawing laughter from the media.
Kelce’s remarkable performance on National Tight Ends Day marked his fifth game with 150+ receiving yards, putting him in the elite company of Shannon Sharpe as the only tight end with such outstanding games.
During the CBS broadcast, a graphic highlighted that Kelce averaged 99.0 yards per game with Swift in attendance, a number that continued to rise that day. In contrast, he averaged 46.5 yards per game this season when Swift wasn’t there to cheer him on live.
Reid has previously spoken about Swift and has even met her and her father in the past. “I knew her from Philadelphia,” Reid said. “Her dad is a big NFL fan. I had met her when she was really young and her dad. I joked about setting Kelce up, but, you know, I’m just saying.” He had all positive things to say about the singer, adding, “She’s into it, and we’re glad she’s here.”
In September, Reid humorously took credit for the budding romance, saying, “I set them up.”
Swift has attended five games in 2023, and her presence has graced every major network’s broadcast (CBS, NBC, Fox, ESPN, and Amazon). The Chiefs’ next game, and the next opportunity to witness the “Taylor Swift Effect” in action, is scheduled for October 29 at Empower Field at Mile High against the Denver Broncos. Swift has already attended a Chiefs-Broncos AFC West matchup, albeit at Arrowhead Stadium.
