Arizona State hosted its hottest October football game ever on Saturday, with the temperature reaching 107 degrees Fahrenheit at the 5:05 p.m. kickoff against Kansas.
This temperature ties for the hottest game overall at Mountain America Stadium, which has records going back to 2000. The previous record of 107 degrees was set during a game against Sacramento State on September 5, 2013.
While triple-digit temperatures are common in central Arizona during early September, this year’s extreme heat has continued into the football season. The National Weather Service reported that Phoenix hit 111 degrees on Saturday, marking the 12th consecutive day of record-high temperatures.
All of the other 12 hottest kickoffs in Arizona State’s stadium history occurred before September 9.
