Titans starting quarterback Will Levis is out because of an injury to his throwing shoulder, which means backup Mason Rudolph will start against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
Levis has been dealing with an AC joint injury in his right shoulder and was listed as questionable after being limited in two out of three practice sessions this week. The second-year player recently had his worst performance, passing for only 95 yards in a 20-17 loss to Indianapolis last week.
It is not clear if he hurt himself further during practice this week or how long he might be out.
Levis has struggled, losing all four games he has started and finished this season while trying to learn a new offense under first-year coach Brian Callahan. He has thrown five touchdowns but also leads the NFL with seven interceptions, along with three lost fumbles.
Rudolph, who joined the team as a free agent in the offseason, is making his first start and second appearance with the Titans. He stepped in for the injured Levis during a 31-12 victory against Miami on September 30. The 29-year-old has an 8-4-1 career record from his first six seasons in Pittsburgh.
Trevor Siemian has been promoted from the Titans’ practice squad to take on the backup role.
The Titans (1-4) are also without receiver Treylon Burks, who injured his knee in practice and was placed on injured reserve on Saturday, along with starting cornerback L’Jarius Sneed (quadriceps).
For Buffalo (4-2), receiver Amari Cooper is active and ready to make his debut after being traded from Cleveland on Tuesday.
