The Texas Rangers have agreed contracts with their initial 17 draft selections, which include Malcolm Moore, their first-round pick from Stanford.
Moore, a catcher from Stanford, was chosen as the 30th overall pick in Major League Baseball’s amateur draft, held during the All-Star events organized by the Rangers. The team confirmed the signings on Wednesday, eight days following the draft’s conclusion.
Texas introduced Moore before their game against the Chicago White Sox, where he participated in batting practice with the team. He received a signing bonus of $3 million.
Dylan Dreiling, an outfielder from Tennessee selected in the second round, received a bonus of $1,287,600.
Additionally, the Rangers signed four undrafted free agents.
Moore becomes only the fourth catcher selected by the Rangers in the first round and the first since 2010. Among the previous three, only Bill Haselman, drafted 23rd overall in 1987, reached the majors.
As a left-handed batter, Moore achieved a .288 batting average with 31 home runs and 99 RBIs across 118 games during his two seasons at Stanford. He led the Cardinal with 16 home runs in 54 games during his sophomore year and recorded more walks (44) than strikeouts (35).
