Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star Karl-Anthony Towns was sidelined for the game against Indiana on Thursday due to left knee soreness, as announced by the team.
According to reports from The Athletic and ESPN, Towns is dealing with a torn meniscus and is considering treatment options. However, the Timberwolves have not confirmed these reports.
Towns, in his ninth year in the league, has been instrumental in the success of the Western Conference-leading Timberwolves this season.
He’s been averaging 22.1 points and 8.4 rebounds per game while boasting a career-best 42.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Towns had previously missed only one game this season due to left knee soreness on December 23.
Although he didn’t show obvious signs of discomfort in the Timberwolves’ recent game against Portland on Monday, Towns played only 21 minutes, marking his second-lowest playing time of the season.
With Towns out, the team will rely more on All-Star Anthony Edwards for scoring, while Naz Reid’s role off the bench is expected to increase as he serves as the primary backup to Towns and center Rudy Gobert.
