Pinch-hitter Ernie Clement hit a solo home run off Caleb Ferguson in the seventh inning, putting the Toronto Blue Jays ahead 3-0 against the Yankees in New York’s first home game of the season.

Juan Soto, making his debut with the Yankees, didn’t have a good game, going 0 for 4 with two strikeouts. He showed his frustration by slamming his bat and helmet after the final out in the eighth inning.

Despite a warm welcome from fans when he came to bat, Soto’s struggles continued.

He’s now just 1 for 16 after a strong start to the season.

Both starting pitchers, Marcus Stroman for the Blue Jays and Yusei Kikuchi for the Yankees, pitched well, keeping the game scoreless until the bullpens took over.

Clement, who hadn’t played much in the majors in previous seasons, hit the second pitch he saw from Ferguson for his first career pinch-hit home run, giving the Blue Jays the lead.
