The NFL has made a change to its trade deadline to align with the expanded regular season. The owners have agreed to move the deadline from the Tuesday following Week 8 to the Tuesday following Week 9. This decision was announced by the league on Tuesday.
Some teams, including the Browns, had suggested pushing the deadline to the Tuesday after Week 10.
Browns General Manager Andrew Berry explained during an interview that their proposal accounted for the added week due to the 17-game season and anticipated future expansion to an 18-game season.
It’s expected that if and when the NFL extends to an 18-game season, the trade deadline will be adjusted again. But for now, it’s set for the Tuesday after Week 9.
