Tiger Woods has been bestowed with the prestigious Bob Jones Award, the USGA’s highest accolade, in recognition of his unwavering dedication to sportsmanship and reverence for golf’s timeless customs.

Renowned for his prowess on the green, Woods has secured an impressive 15 majors and amassed 82 career victories on the PGA Tour, solidifying his status as one of golf’s most formidable competitors.

“This award transcends mere on-course achievements, acknowledging the enduring impact of an individual whose journey has indelibly shaped the landscape and evolution of golf,” remarked Mike Whan, CEO of the USGA. “Tiger Woods stands unparalleled in his on-course accomplishments, yet his true distinction lies in the profound influence he has wielded upon the sport, charting a course for future generations of players.”

Inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2022 and bestowed with the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Donald Trump in 2019, Woods’ contributions to the sport extend far beyond his remarkable playing career.

Expressing gratitude for the honor, Woods conveyed his appreciation via social media, underscoring the significance of the recognition bestowed upon him.

A nine-time USGA champion, Woods clinched three consecutive U.S. Junior Amateurs, followed by an impressive trio of U.S. Amateurs, culminating in victories at the U.S. Open held at Pebble Beach (2000), Bethpage Black (2002), and Torrey Pines (2008).

“Bob Jones epitomized the essence of our sport through his unwavering integrity, and it is with profound humility that I accept an award bearing his name, joining the esteemed roster of individuals who have perpetuated his legacy,” remarked Woods in a statement.

Jones’ storied career culminated in the Grand Slam victory of 1930, encompassing triumphs at the U.S. Open, U.S. Amateur, British Open, and British Amateur. His enduring legacy is further evidenced by his role in co-founding the Augusta National Golf Club and establishing the Masters Tournament.

Beyond his on-course achievements, Woods has championed educational initiatives through the TGR Foundation, fostering STEM-based learning at the TGR Learning Lab in California. Additionally, his foray into golf course design has seen fruition with courses like the one in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, which hosted a PGA Tour event last fall.

The presentation of the Bob Jones Award to Woods is scheduled for June 12 during the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina, joining the esteemed ranks of past recipients such as Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Mickey Wright, Ben Hogan, and former President George H.W. Bush.
