Tim Kleindienst was a key player in Borussia Mönchengladbach’s 4-1 victory over Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga on Sunday.
Kleindienst played a role in every goal as Gladbach bounced back from a loss in the German Cup to Eintracht Frankfurt, easing some of the pressure on coach Gerardo Seoane after nine rounds in the league. So far this season, his team has lost four league games, matching the number of wins.
Gladbach took advantage of mistakes in Bremen’s defense to jump to an early two-goal lead.
Kleindienst capitalized on a poor pass to set up Alassane Plea, who scored with a deflected shot in the 11th minute. Just a minute later, he caused an own goal from Marco Friedl after Bremen goalkeeper Michael Zetterer’s kick went directly to a Gladbach player.
Kleindienst also assisted Franck Honorat, who scored the third goal on a counterattack just before halftime. Honorat began his run from his own half and was pursued by two defenders before calmly scoring inside the far corner.
Bremen showed improvement after halftime, but Kleindienst assisted Kevin Stöger, who scored Gladbach’s fourth goal in the 66th minute.
Bremen managed to score a consolation goal through Keke Topp in the 75th minute, just seven minutes before teammate Mitchell Weiser was shown a second yellow card and sent off.
Earlier, Freiburg missed the chance to move into third place after a 0-0 draw against Mainz, which kept their unbeaten away record in the league.
Bayern Munich currently leads the league by three points.
