Toni Kroos will play more games before he retires. Germany’s chances of winning Euro 2024 seem more promising than ever.
Kroos, known for his success with six Champions League titles and a World Cup, played a steady role in Germany’s 2-0 victory over Denmark on Saturday. He helped control the midfield, contributing to the team’s success.
Having already won the Champions League with Real Madrid this season, Kroos is now just three games away from potentially winning another trophy. His next opponent could be his Real Madrid teammate, Spain’s Dani Carvajal.
Fans are already looking forward to the final in Berlin and expressed their excitement as Germany secured their victory.
Similar to Zinedine Zidane in 2006, another great from Real Madrid, Kroos is finishing his illustrious career at a major tournament in Germany.
He returned to international football in February for one last tournament. Each match Germany plays in the knockout stage could be Kroos’s last.
Germany overcame tough weather conditions and strong opposition from Denmark to ensure the 34-year-old midfielder will continue playing. They will face either Spain or Georgia in the quarterfinals on July 5.
Zidane reached the 2006 World Cup final with France but was sent off after a controversial incident and lost to Italy. Kroos and Germany still have hopes of winning on home soil, aiming for their first major trophy since lifting the World Cup in 2014.
Prior to the Denmark game, Germany had struggled in major tournament knockout matches since Euro 2016. The recent victory suggests Germany is finally turning things around under coach Julian Nagelsmann, who took over last year with a goal of achieving success at Euro 2024. Nagelsmann has already committed to coaching Germany through the 2026 World Cup.
