Predators take on the Blues, aiming to keep their momentum going

After a strong performance during their homestand, the Nashville Predators return from the Christmas break playing some of their best hockey of the season, which has been a tough one overall.

Meanwhile, the St. Louis Blues will look to win back-to-back games for the first time in more than three weeks.

The Predators, who are on a four-game point streak, will aim for rare road success when they face the Blues on Friday night.

Nashville has 29 points and is near the bottom of the Western Conference standings, but they just finished a 3-0-1 homestand.

In Nashville’s 5-2 win over Carolina on Monday, Jonathan Marchessault scored two goals and had an assist, Filip Forsberg added three assists, and Steven Stamkos scored for the third time in five games.

“We’ve been playing some better hockey, and it’s good,” said Marchessault, who has scored five times during a four-game goal streak. “I think we push hard … Come back (from the break) with a lot of energy.”

Nashville has a home record of 8-7-3 but is only 3-10-4 on the road. Friday will begin a six-game road trip for the Predators.

“We’re not satisfied,” said Stamkos, who has three goals and four assists in the last seven games. “We have to carry that (into the new year).”

The Blues are 2-6-1 at home but should have some momentum after ending a 1-1-1 road trip with a 4-0 win at Detroit on Monday.

St. Louis Blues players celebrate in the 3rd period

Dylan Holloway scored his first NHL hat trick, and Jordan Binnington stopped all 19 shots he faced for St. Louis, which had been limited to a single goal in each game during its previous 0-2-1 slide.

“Just a very complete game (Monday), and commitment to playing for each other,” said Binnington, who allowed at least three goals in six of his previous seven starts. “We need the points right now.”

The Blues are 3-4-2 since winning two straight games on Dec. 3 and 5.

Holloway, in his third NHL season and first with the Blues, already has set a career high with 13 goals. He ended a six-game point drought with his hat trick on Monday.

“It’s definitely good for the confidence,” Holloway said. “We got a lot of hockey to play … Just staying focused.”

Robert Thomas, with two assists against the Red Wings, now has 12 assists and 16 points in his last 11 games.

Meanwhile, Nashville’s Forsberg has not scored a goal in 13 straight games. However, he has 12 assists in his last seven contests. Forsberg has 20 goals and 23 assists in 38 career games against the Blues, and he had eight points while the Predators won all three meetings against them in the 2023-24 season.

Teammate Juuse Saros has a 2.32 goals-against average in his last three starts, all at home. However, he is struggling on the road with an 0-5-1 record and has allowed three goals in each of his last five road games.

As the Predators and Blues meet for the first time this season, Nashville has won four straight games in the series, including the last two at St. Louis.

The St. Louis Blues have been improving since Jim Montgomery took over as head coach, and now they will face the Tampa Bay Lightning

The St. Louis Blues have been improving under new coach Jim Montgomery, showing better results after 11 games with him in charge. They are starting a three-game road trip, beginning with a game against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday.

The Blues started the season with a 9-12-1 record under former coach Drew Bannister. After firing Bannister on November 24, the team hired Montgomery. He had been let go by the Boston Bruins despite winning the Jack Adams Award as the NHL’s best coach in 2022-23.

Montgomery’s positive mindset, inspired by his mother, helped him quickly recognize the team’s potential when he returned to St. Louis. “I saw the plays we were making … the speed in which we were making the skilled plays,” Montgomery said after his first game as head coach, a 5-2 win over the New York Rangers.

“It wasn’t one line, it was four lines. … You see the one game where (Joel) Hofer is outstanding in net and then the next game (goaltender Jordan) Binnington breaks Mike Liut’s record (for most wins by a St. Louis goalie). You know you have quality talent in the room.”

Under Montgomery, the Blues have improved offensively, raising their goals per game from 2.36 under Bannister to 2.90, with a 6-3-2 record.

Tampa Bay Lightning (NHL)

Binnington has an 8-12-3 record with a 2.94 goals-against average and .898 save percentage in 24 games. Hofer has been strong in 10 starts, with a 7-3-0 record, a 2.83 GAA, and a .905 save percentage.

Jordan Kyrou scored the only goal in the Blues’ 4-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday. Kyrou leads the team with 28 points (14 goals, 14 assists). Robert Thomas has 23 points (6 goals, 17 assists), and Pavel Buchnevich has 21 points (8 goals, 13 assists).

The Lightning have won three games in a row, with Jake Guentzel leading the charge. Playing on a top line with Brayden Point and Nikita Kucherov, Guentzel has scored 18 goals, second to Point’s 21. Guentzel is also on a seven-game goal streak, the longest in the NHL this season.

Coach Jon Cooper highlighted forward Nick Paul’s performance in the Lightning’s 5-3 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday. Paul matched his career-high with three points (1 goal, 2 assists). Cooper said, “I think he was the best player on the ice for us tonight from start to finish. He’s a big piece for us. He fills a lot of holes and does a lot of jobs.”

While the fourth line’s Luke Glendening added a goal, the top line continued to produce. Kucherov extended his point streak to eight games, with 15 assists and 3 goals. Point scored an empty-net goal to extend his point streak to six games, with 5 goals and 11 assists.

Blues Hold Off Rangers for 3-2 Win Behind Key Contributions from Kyrou, Buchnevich, and Hofer

The St. Louis Blues secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over the New York Rangers, bouncing back after an overtime loss to the Dallas Stars the previous night. Despite the Rangers’ recent struggles, they made it challenging for the Blues by scoring twice in quick succession during the third period. The Blues, however, managed to hold on and close out the game effectively. Robert Thomas, who extended his point streak to seven games, emphasized the team’s strong 5-on-5 play and acknowledged the need to avoid letting opponents get back into games.

Key players stepped up for the Blues, with Pavel Buchnevich extending his point streak to nine games, Jordan Kyrou scoring for the fourth consecutive game, and goalie Joel Hofer earning his fourth straight win with 26 saves. Coach Jim Montgomery highlighted improved checking habits as a critical factor in the win, a stark contrast to recent games where defensive lapses had been costly. The team responded well to Montgomery’s focus on defensive consistency and intensity, even managing to stay composed under the Rangers’ third-period pressure.

Montgomery’s emphasis on correcting “habits” through video sessions rather than on-ice practices paid dividends. Despite a demanding schedule, the Blues demonstrated improved defensive discipline, which limited the Rangers’ opportunities. The coach noted that lapses in intensity could quickly lead to trouble in such a competitive league. His timeout during the third period helped refocus the players, underscoring the importance of maintaining a high level of play for a full 60 minutes.

The Blues’ top players, including Thomas, Buchnevich, and Kyrou, contributed decisively, turning scoring opportunities into goals despite subpar possession metrics in recent games. Kyrou’s speed and ability to capitalize on turnovers proved instrumental, as seen in his impressive goal off a steal. Montgomery praised the trio’s ability to make opposing defenses uncomfortable, creating chances even in tight situations. Their improved performance was a significant factor in securing the win.

A notable new addition to the Blues, defenseman Cam Fowler, made an immediate impact with his puck-moving ability and composure under pressure. Paired with Colton Parayko, Fowler helped the team maintain cleaner puck transportation and spend less time defending in their own zone. His veteran presence and smart decision-making have smoothed his transition to the team, reinforcing the blue line’s stability. Coach Montgomery lauded Fowler’s experience and game-management skills, noting the positive influence he’s had in just two games with the Blues.

Shesterkin Posts Shutout in 200th Game as Rangers Cruise to 4-0 Win Over Blues

The New York Rangers secured a dominant 4-0 victory over the St. Louis Blues, highlighted by Igor Shesterkin’s 13th career shutout in his milestone 200th NHL game. Shesterkin made 26 saves, continuing his impressive form this season with a record of 27-13-2. First-period goals by Vincent Trocheck and Jimmy Vesey set the tone for the Rangers, while Chris Kreider and Kaapo Kakko added insurance tallies. Artemi Panarin and Adam Fox contributed two assists each, showcasing the team’s offensive depth.

This victory solidified the Rangers’ strong position in the Metropolitan Division, where they lead second-place Carolina by four points. The win also improved their record to 22-8-0 at Madison Square Garden, with nine victories in their last ten home games. Coach Peter Laviolette praised the team’s sharp 60-minute effort, reflecting their recent consistency and balanced contributions from both veteran players and newcomers.

The Rangers’ power play was a key factor, converting on three of six opportunities. Trocheck opened the scoring during a power play in his 700th career game, and Kreider added another power-play goal in the third period. Kakko capped the scoring with yet another power-play marker, emphasizing the team’s ability to capitalize on St. Louis’ penalties. Rookie Matt Rempe also made an impact despite his would-be goal being disallowed, earning recognition for his physical play and energy on a reconfigured line.

St. Louis, meanwhile, continued its struggles, losing its third straight game and falling to a 3-7-1 record in its last 11 outings. Interim coach Drew Bannister cited penalties and the Rangers’ skill as key issues. Shesterkin’s stellar saves, including critical stops against Brandon Saad, Kasperi Kapanen, and Robert Thomas, underscored the Blues’ inability to generate offense against a disciplined Rangers defense.

In addition to the win, the Rangers showcased new roster additions. Alexander Wennberg and Jack Roslovic made their team debuts, contributing to the lineup’s versatility. Wennberg assisted on Kakko’s goal and showed promise centering a new line, while Roslovic found synergy with Mika Zibanejad and Kreider. Defenseman Chad Ruhwedel, acquired in a recent trade, participated in warmups but was scratched for the game. The Rangers’ depth and cohesion continue to drive their success as they prepare for the season’s final stretch.

New Jersey Devils continued their strong play, defeating the St. Louis Blues 3-0

Jacob Markstrom stopped 19 shots to help the New Jersey Devils secure a 4-1 win over the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday.

Ondrej Palat, Stefan Noesen, Brenden Dillon, and Jesper Bratt each scored for the Devils, who have won 5 of their last 7 games. Jack Hughes contributed two assists.

Jordan Kyrou scored for the Blues, and Jordan Binnington made 24 saves. This loss marked only their third regulation defeat in 11 games (6-3-2) since Jim Montgomery took over as head coach.

The Blues nearly scored first when Kyrou’s shot from the high slot hit Markstrom and bounced off the right post. Dylan Holloway also had a good chance in the first period, but Markstrom stopped his breakaway attempt.

New Jersey opened the scoring with 4:47 left in the first. Luke Hughes sent a pass that bounced off the boards to Palat, who fired a slapshot past Binnington from the left circle.

The Devils extended their lead to 2-0 early in the second period with the first of two consecutive power-play goals. Jack Hughes took a tough-angle shot from the right side, and Noesen finally converted the rebound after three attempts.

New Jersey’s defense limited St. Louis to only 11 shots in the first two periods.

Dillon made it 3-0 just 3:38 into the third period with a shot from the left circle that found the net through traffic.

Kyrou scored for the Blues with 9:32 left, cutting the deficit to 3-1 while Binnington was pulled for an extra attacker. This goal extended Kyrou’s scoring streak to four games.

Bratt added an empty-net goal with 3:16 left to seal the win, making it 4-1.

Blues and Devils gaining momentum as they prepare for their upcoming rematch

The St. Louis Blues believe that winger Jordan Kyrou will be one of the key players for their ongoing rebuild.

Recently, he has shown why. Kyrou is heading into Tuesday’s game against the New Jersey Devils with a four-game goal-scoring streak.

After only scoring two goals in 11 games, Kyrou has scored six goals in his last seven games.

“When he’s getting the puck in a scoring area, he’s looking to shoot, he’s not looking to pass,” said Blues center Robert Thomas. “When he’s doing that, it’s tough. Goalies don’t have time to get ready for a shot, and he’s putting it in the right spots.”

Kyrou has also improved his overall play. He is plus-4 in 32 games this season, compared to minus-12 last season and minus-38 two seasons ago.

“I think he’s just staying with it,” said Blues coach Jim Montgomery. “I don’t see highs and lows in his body language. He’s just on to the next shift, and I think he’s developing a real maturity mentally and to his physical game.”

The Blues have gone 6-2-2 since Montgomery replaced Drew Bannister as head coach. This includes a 3-0 win over the Devils on Nov. 27 in Newark, N.J.

Dylan Holloway scored twice for the Blues in that win, and Thomas scored once. Pavel Buchnevich got a minor lower-body injury in that game, but he has returned and scored six points in his last six games.

Jordan Binnington made 32 saves to earn the shutout over the Devils, and he is expected to start on Tuesday, since backup Joel Hofer started Sunday’s 3-2 win over the New York Rangers.

Toronto Maple Leafs and New Jersey Devils

Goaltender Jakob Markstrom has started three consecutive games for the Devils after Jake Allen was injured on Dec. 8 against Colorado. Markstrom allowed three goals on 20 shots in the earlier loss to the Blues.

Allen skated with the Devils on Monday and was cleared to play on the team’s two-game road trip.

The Devils are 4-1-1 in their last six games. They scored four goals in the third period during their 4-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday.

New Jersey coach Sheldon Keefe urged the team to play with more energy in the final 20 minutes, and the Devils responded.

“Just challenged the guys in the second (intermission) to be exactly that, a little more determined and competitive,” Keefe said.

“When we were trying to complicate things and we were turning pucks over, we just kept feeding (the Blackhawks),” said winger Jesper Bratt, who earned an assist on two of the goals. “So, I think going into the third, we knew we needed a goal. It wasn’t really going to come pretty. It was going to come from some battles.”

Bratt has three goals and 10 assists in the eight games since the Blues shut out the Devils. On the other hand, Nico Hischier had not scored a point in five straight games before scoring against the Blackhawks.

Matt Duchene’s Overtime Heroics Lift Stars to 2-1 Victory Over Blues in Thrilling Finish

The Dallas Stars edged out the St. Louis Blues 2-1 in an overtime thriller on Saturday night, with Matt Duchene delivering the game-winning goal on a remarkable end-to-end rush at 2:31 into the extra period. Starting near his own goal line, Duchene maneuvered past defenders to secure the win at the American Airlines Center. Jake Oettinger was solid in goal, stopping 15 shots and maintaining an impressive 11-1-0 home record. Jason Robertson also contributed significantly for Dallas, scoring a goal and assisting on another.

Duchene’s game-winner further cemented his role as a key player for Dallas this season. Leading the team with 13 goals, including four decisive game-winners, he continues to be a clutch performer. Robertson, the Stars’ top scorer for the past two seasons, has recently rediscovered his scoring touch, netting goals in two of his last three games—a feat he hadn’t achieved since late October. The Stars showed resilience, earning their first win in seven games this season after trailing at the end of the first period.

For the Blues, Jordan Kyrou opened the scoring in the first period and extended his streak with goals in three straight games, totaling five goals in his last six outings. Goaltender Jordan Binnington was a standout for St. Louis, making 35 saves and keeping the Blues competitive, especially during a second period where they were outshot 14-3. His strong play in penalty-kill situations limited Dallas to just one power-play goal on three opportunities.

Both teams had standout moments and notable performances. For St. Louis, Robert Thomas assisted on Kyrou’s goal, extending his own point streak to six games with three goals and eight assists in that span. However, the Blues continue to face challenges, particularly with injuries. They recently acquired defenseman Cam Fowler to bolster their lineup in the absence of Nick Leddy, and veteran forward Brandon Saad was a healthy scratch after a prolonged scoring drought.

Looking ahead, the Blues will host the New York Rangers on Sunday, seeking to bounce back from the narrow loss. Meanwhile, the Stars will look to maintain their momentum when they host the Washington Capitals on Monday. The key moment of the game occurred late in overtime when Oettinger’s critical save on Pavel Buchnevich set the stage for Duchene’s heroic game-winner, sealing a gritty and hard-fought victory for Dallas.

Matt Duchene scored in overtime to give the Dallas Stars a 3-2 victory over their Central Division rival, the St. Louis Blues

Matt Duchene scored during an overtime rush to give the Dallas Stars a 2-1 win over the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night.

Jason Robertson had a goal and an assist for the Stars, and Jake Oettinger made 15 saves, starting his fifth consecutive game. Oettinger stretched his left pad to stop Pavel Buchnevich in overtime before Duchene scored the game-winning goal.

Jordan Kyrou scored for the Blues, who are 5-2-2 under new coach Jim Montgomery. Jordan Binnington made 35 saves, earning St. Louis a point.

The Blues applied pressure during their first power play and finally scored just as it expired. After Robert Thomas’ shot was blocked, he retrieved the puck and passed it to Kyrou in the low slot, where Kyrou scored at 9:08, giving St. Louis a 1-0 lead. This was Kyrou’s seventh goal in the last 11 games.

Minnesota Wild and Philadelphia Flyers

Dallas came out strong in the second period, outshooting the Blues 14-3. Binnington made early saves on Logan Stankoven and Esa Lindell. The Stars capitalized on a power play 2:39 into the period, when Jamie Benn passed the puck to Robertson in the high slot, and Robertson tied the game 1-1 with a one-timer.

Dallas quickly got another power play and put more pressure on St. Louis, but the Blues killed it off to keep the score tied. Later in the second, the Stars had another power play but Binnington stopped Stankoven’s one-time shot from the left circle.

Dallas had more puck possession in the third period. Robertson had a great chance early on but couldn’t get his backhand shot past Binnington at the right post. The Blues created some scoring chances, but Oettinger stopped Jake Neighbours on a breakaway.

Despite being outshot 34-17 in regulation, St. Louis managed to reach overtime.

Blues trade for experienced defenseman Cam Fowler from the Ducks

The St. Louis Blues traded for veteran defenseman Cam Fowler from the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday.

Along with Fowler, the Blues received a fourth-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft. In exchange, they gave the Ducks a second-round pick in that same draft and defenseman Jeremie Biakabutuka.

The Ducks will keep 38.5 percent of Fowler’s remaining contract. His contract has an average annual value of $6.5 million and will end after the 2025-26 season.

Fowler, 33, is the longest-serving active player on the Ducks. He was drafted by the team with the 12th overall pick in the 2010 NHL Draft. For the past five seasons, he has served as an assistant captain at times.

“This was a difficult trade to make considering what Cam has meant to this organization,” said Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek. “He has been a valuable and respected member of our team for 15 seasons, representing the Ducks with ultimate class.

Minnesota Wild and Anaheim Ducks

His character and contributions on and off the ice have and will continue to leave a positive impact on our fans and community. After meeting with Cam several times over the last few months, it became clear to both of us it may be time for a change.

As usual, Cam handled the process with professionalism and remained committed to the Ducks. Cam and his family deserve nothing but the best going forward, and we wish them the best of luck.”

Fowler has four assists in 17 games this season and 457 points (96 goals, 361 assists) in 991 career games with Anaheim.

Biakabutuka, 22, signed a three-year entry-level contract with St. Louis in July 2023. He has played in five career games with Springfield and Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League.

On Saturday, St. Louis also assigned defenseman Matthew Kessel to Springfield. Kessel, 24, has three assists in 26 games this season for the Blues.

Stars look to bounce back from unusual home loss as rival Blues come to town

The Dallas Stars will look to bounce back and reclaim their strong home performance when they play the St. Louis Blues on Saturday.

Before a 4-1 loss to the Nashville Predators on Thursday, the Stars had a solid 11-2-0 record at home. They will now try to respond strongly in their first game of the season against their Central Division rivals, the Blues.

“We have to be a lot better at the start of next game,” said Dallas defenseman Miro Heiskanen. “We have to do everything better.”

The Stars will focus on putting pressure on the Blues’ defense to create more offensive chances.

“I didn’t think we had enough chances or created enough in the whole game,” Heiskanen added. “We were too slow and too soft and didn’t end plays quick enough. Forecheck wasn’t working really well, we didn’t (force) many (turnovers). We have to be a lot sharper all over the ice.”

The only goal for Dallas in the loss to Nashville came from rookie defenseman Lian Bichsel, who scored in his NHL debut.

“He showed what’s intriguing about him,” said Stars coach Peter DeBoer. “He’s a big body and the way he got up ice on that goal, the way he skated. We like that element from our defensemen. There were some really good signs.”

The Stars have struggled recently, losing three of their last four games, with Jake Oettinger starting in goal for each.

The Blues are coming off a 3-1-0 road trip through Western Canada, but lost 4-3 to the San Jose Sharks on Thursday. St. Louis didn’t play well until the third period, when a late rally almost forced overtime.

St. Louis Blues players celebrate in the 3rd period

“Every team does it in the league,” said Blues captain Brayden Schenn about the tough road schedule. “That’s no excuse. It’s just they’re tougher games to play, no doubt about it. At the same time, when you have that, you just have to play smarter. We probably would like to have our first two periods back (Thursday) and manage the game a little bit better.”

The Blues allowed odd-man rushes throughout the game because their forwards didn’t cover for the defensemen who moved deep into the offensive zone.

“We’re asking our defensemen to pinch pucks that are on walls,” said Blues coach Jim Montgomery, who has a 5-2-1 record since replacing Drew Bannister as head coach. “They did and they kept them in. What’s happening is our forwards got to get above (the puck). The forward that’s responsible for replacing the D, when the puck gets stopped, he’s stopping.”

The Blues took Friday off to rest and prepare for the game against the Stars.

“We’ve been in a lot of different beds,” said Blues defenseman Ryan Suter, a former Star. “It’s tough, but every day is a new day. You wake up and you kind of forget about the past and you focus on being good that night.”

Blues center Radek Faksa, also a former Star, didn’t play against the Sharks but coach Montgomery hoped he would be ready to face his old team. Nathan Walker filled in as the fourth-line center in his place, and Mathieu Joseph rejoined the lineup.

Macklin Celebrini recorded three points to help the Sharks edge past the Blues in a close game

Rookie Macklin Celebrini scored two goals and added an assist to help the San Jose Sharks defeat the St. Louis Blues 4-3 on Thursday.

Jake Walman contributed a goal and an assist, Tyler Toffoli scored, and Nikolai Kovalenko had three assists as the Sharks ended their three-game losing streak.

Alexandar Georgiev made 17 saves in his Sharks debut. He and Kovalenko were traded from the Colorado Avalanche for Mackenzie Blackwood and Givani Smith on Monday.

Jake Neighbours scored a goal and added an assist for the Blues, who had just their second loss in regulation in the last eight games (5-2-1) since Jim Montgomery became the coach.

Brayden Schenn and Jordan Kyrou also scored for the Blues, while Jordan Binnington made 27 saves.

Toffoli gave the Sharks the lead just 1:21 into the game. He scored off a rebound after Binnington turned the puck over behind his net.

St. Louis Blues players celebrate in the 3rd period

Neighbours tied the game 1-1 midway through the first period. He received a pass from Ryan Suter, skated up the left wing, and scored with a toe-drag move to the middle.

Celebrini gave the Sharks a 2-1 lead at 5:43 in the second period. He raced up the left wing, tried to pass to Toffoli, but the pass was blocked by Blues defenseman Colton Parayko. The puck bounced back to Celebrini, who scored as Binnington was caught out of position.

The Sharks pressured on a late second-period power play. Celebrini finished the flurry by scoring from the left faceoff dot off a pass from Mikael Granlund at 19:53, giving the Sharks a 3-1 lead.

Schenn cut the lead to 3-2 with a rebound goal at 5:34 in the third period after Mathew Kessel shot the puck into traffic.

However, just 27 seconds later, Walman scored to make it 4-2 from the left wing on a two-on-one pass from Kovalenko.

Kyrou answered back, making it 4-3 by scoring off a touch pass from Pavel Buchnevich at 7:57.

With Binnington pulled for an extra attacker, Buchnevich hit the left post in the final moments, and St. Louis’ comeback attempt fell short.

Blues edge Canucks in overtime to secure another home defeat for Vancouver

Dylan Holloway scored just 1:40 into overtime to give the St. Louis Blues a 4-3 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday.

Jake DeBrusk tied the game for the Canucks with a goal at 18:08 in the third period, but Holloway sealed the win for the Blues in overtime with a shot over Thatcher Demko’s shoulder.

Holloway also recorded an assist, bringing his total to 11 points (six goals, five assists) in a seven-game point streak.

Robert Thomas had a goal and two assists for St. Louis. Jordan Kyrou and Zack Bolduc also scored for the Blues.

Joel Hofer made 22 saves on 25 shots, earning his sixth win in nine starts this season. Since Jim Montgomery became coach on Nov. 24, the Blues have a record of 5-1-1.

The Canucks have a record of 0-1-1 in their last two games and just four wins (4-6-4) in 14 home games this season.

Demko stopped 21 of 25 shots in his first game of the season after recovering from a knee injury he sustained in April during the Canucks’ first Stanley Cup playoff game.

Vancouver Canucks and Anaheim Ducks

Elias Pettersson had a goal and an assist for Vancouver, while Conor Garland and Brock Boeser each added two assists.

Dakota Joshua opened the scoring for the Canucks at 8:02 of the first period. Just 73 seconds later, St. Louis tied the game with Bolduc’s accurate shot through traffic.

During a Vancouver power play at 17:30 of the first period, Garland tried to intercept a pass, which led to a breakaway for Thomas. He scored the Blues’ first short-handed goal of the season.

A tripping call on Boeser led to the Blues’ next goal, as Kyrou scored a power-play goal at 16:18 of the second period.

Vancouver responded with a power-play goal at 18:32 when a pass from Pettersson was accidentally tipped into the net by St. Louis defenseman Colton Parayko.
