Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette will finish his season on the injured list due to a broken right middle finger, after just one game back from a calf injury that kept him out for more than eight weeks.

The two-time All-Star was placed on the 10-day injured list on Thursday, two days after he had returned and played his first game since July 19.

Bichette went 2 for 5 with an RBI on Tuesday night against Texas. He was expected to be back in the Blue Jays lineup on Wednesday, but he broke the finger on his throwing hand while taking ground balls before the game. X-rays confirmed the broken bone.

“When it happened, he still continued to hit and finish his defensive work and it was bothering him. He was frustrated,” said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

“I do think he’s in a pretty good place in terms of perspective and things like that. He was obviously frustrated, but knowing that something positive will come out of this.”

Schneider mentioned that Bichette would see a hand specialist but believes the shortstop will have a normal offseason and be ready for spring training.

Bichette, who debuted in the big leagues in 2019, had a career-low .225 batting average with four home runs and 31 RBIs in 81 games this season.

Toronto called up outfielder Jonatan Clase from Triple-A, and he was added to the roster for the series finale against the Rangers. The Blue Jays acquired Clase on July 26 in the trade that sent Yimi Garcia to Seattle.
