Atlanta Hawks star player Trae Young, who hasn’t played for 22 games due to a torn ligament in his left fifth finger, is getting closer to returning to the court.
On Monday, the Hawks announced that Young has been given the go-ahead to join team practice and participate in contact drills. He underwent surgery on February 27 after injuring his finger on February 23 and has now been cleared after a six-week evaluation.
Young, who earned his third All-Star selection this season, is the leading scorer for Atlanta with an average of 26.4 points and 10.8 assists per game.
Despite Young’s absence, the Hawks have maintained their position as the 10th seed in the Eastern Conference, just one game behind the 9th seed Chicago Bulls, securing them a spot in the play-in tournament.
During Young’s time off, Dejounte Murray has taken over as the primary ball-handler and is second on the team with averages of 22.4 points and 6.4 assists per game.
