Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce has sparked debate among NFL fans, with many calling for disciplinary action after his touchdown celebration during Saturday’s 23-14 win over the Houston Texans at Arrowhead Stadium.

During the game, the 35-year-old tight end scored a touchdown on a cleverly executed play and appeared to taunt an opposing Texans player.

Supporters defend Kelce, insisting his celebration was not unsportsmanlike (Kansas City Chiefs)

The celebration immediately drew comparisons to a similar incident last year involving Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Zay Flowers, who celebrated a touchdown against the Chiefs by seemingly mocking and nudging a rival player.

In Flowers’ case, the league fined him $10,927 (£8,845) for unsportsmanlike conduct, leaving some fans surprised that Kelce did not face similar consequences.

One fan expressed frustration on social media, writing, “I mean, it’s the Chiefs.” Another claimed, “Two sets of rules,” while a third added, “Chiefs don’t play with the same playing field.”

Despite the criticism, other fans pushed back on the idea that the two situations were comparable. “Truly compare both instances, because they aren’t the same,” one user pointed out. Another commented, “Nowhere near the same,” and yet another urged, “Give it a rest people…”

The contrasting opinions highlight the divided perspectives among NFL supporters regarding Kelce’s celebration and whether the league should have taken action similar to last year’s fine for Flowers.
