Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story underwent shoulder surgery, ending his season. Dr. Neal ElAttrache, a physician for the Los Angeles Dodgers, performed the procedure on Story’s left posterior labrum.
Story hurt his shoulder while attempting to make a diving play during a game against the Los Angeles Angels on April 5.
The 31-year-old, who is in the third year of a six-year, $140 million contract, had a batting average of .226 with four RBIs in eight games this season. Over his nine-year career, Story has a batting average of .265 with 177 home runs and 534 RBIs.
However, his performance with the Red Sox has been less impressive, with a .227 average and .681 OPS over three seasons. Story’s playing time has been limited due to various injuries, including a bruised hand and heel in 2022 and a torn UCL in 2021 that required surgery.
The surgery on Friday included fixing a fracture of the glenoid rim through an open reduction and internal fixation.
