Two women in a house in Chicago, a police officer executing a warrant in Cleveland, and an individual making threats in Yellowstone National Park were among those who died in shootings on July Fourth, which is historically one of the deadliest days of the year in the United States.

Violence and shootings often increase during the summer months when more people gather for social events, students are out of school, and temperatures rise.

Three boys, aged 8, 7, and 5, were also injured in the Chicago shooting, which police believe stemmed from a personal dispute. The women who were killed were 42 and 22 years old.

According to Deputy Chief Don Jerome, two vehicles pulled up to a neighborhood in Chicago’s south side, and several individuals exited and fired shots at the house. Multiple shell casings from both a rifle and a handgun were found at the scene.

In Cleveland, the police officer who was killed was identified as Jamieson Ritter. He was part of a team sent to serve a warrant for felonious assault around 1 a.m., said police Chief Dorothy Todd. The suspect reportedly fled the home and allegedly fired multiple shots, striking Officer Ritter.

Meanwhile, in Yellowstone National Park on Thursday, gunfire erupted between park rangers and an individual who had been making threats.

The incident occurred at Canyon Village, a central area of the park that includes a campground, lodging, and a visitor center, according to park officials. The statement did not specify where exactly the shots were fired or whether visitors were affected by what was described as a “significant law enforcement incident” that began overnight.

The ranger involved was reported to be in stable condition at a hospital, although the statement did not detail how the ranger was injured.

On Wednesday evening, a 13-year-old girl was fatally shot at a mall in a Seattle suburb following a fight between two groups of teenagers, according to police in Lynnwood, Washington.
