Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Tyler Glasnow is set to return from the injured list and start against the San Francisco Giants next Wednesday.
Glasnow, who earned his first All-Star selection and attended the events earlier this week in Texas, was placed on the 15-day IL on July 9 due to tightness in his back.
The 30-year-old right-hander completed approximately 57 pitches over three innings in a simulated game at Dodger Stadium on Friday. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts expressed satisfaction with Glasnow’s performance.
“It was really good. His pitches looked sharp. He reported feeling good, and his back was fine,” Roberts commented.
Glasnow described his back issue as typical for taller individuals, saying, “You just get a little twinge.” Given the upcoming break, the team opted for caution by giving him some time off. He is expected to have one more bullpen session before starting next week.
This season, Glasnow has a record of 8-5 with a 3.47 ERA for the leading Dodgers in the NL West.
A potential concern for the Dodgers is Glasnow approaching his career high in innings pitched, having thrown 109 innings so far this year. Last season with Tampa Bay, he pitched 120 innings.
Meanwhile, Clayton Kershaw, a three-time Cy Young Award winner who has not yet played this season for the Dodgers, made his second rehab start on Friday. He pitched for Triple-A Oklahoma City, allowing six hits and three earned runs with two strikeouts and no walks over 67 pitches against Round Rock in Texas.
