UEFA decided on Wednesday that Budapest will host the men’s Champions League final in 2026, but they postponed the decision for the 2027 final, which might be held in Milan’s San Siro stadium.

The Puskás Arena in Budapest and San Siro in Milan were the only contenders for these two finals. Wembley Stadium in London will host the next final on June 1, and Bayern Munich’s home will host the following year.

San Siro, also known as Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, is at risk of demolition, and both AC Milan and Inter Milan, its tenants, are seeking new venues. UEFA has delayed making a decision until September to allow the Italian soccer federation to provide details on plans to refurbish San Siro.

Milan’s uncertainty grew as Inter changed ownership from Suning to American investors Oaktree due to financial issues.

Despite its uncertain future, San Siro could still host the Champions League final for the fifth time, following the 2026 Winter Olympics opening ceremony. The Puskás Arena, with a capacity of 70,000, opened five years ago and has hosted several UEFA events, including last year’s Europa League final.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and billionaire banker Sándor Csányi, a FIFA vice president, are influential figures in Hungarian soccer. UEFA also announced that Oslo, Norway, will host the Women’s Champions League final in 2026.

Additionally, Istanbul will host the 2026 Europa League final at Besiktas’ stadium, while the 2027 final will be held at Eintracht Frankfurt’s home. The 2025 Europa Final is set for Athletic Bilbao’s stadium, which will also host the Women’s Champions League final next week.
