UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley faces a prolonged hiatus after his recent appearance at UFC 299 in Miami, Florida.
Following his decisive victory over Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera, O’Malley received an immediate and indefinite medical suspension from the Florida State Athletic Commission. This suspension stems from injuries sustained during the bout, including apparent issues with his leg and right arm, though the precise details remain undisclosed due to medical confidentiality protocols.
Like all fighters under such suspensions, O’Malley will only be cleared to compete again once deemed fit by medical experts.
Vera, who bore visible facial damage from the fight, faces a 60-day medical suspension.
Four other fighters from UFC 299 received indefinite suspensions. Jack Della Maddalena, who suffered a broken arm in his bout against Gilbert Burns (who also received a similar suspension), as well as Ion Cutelaba and Philipe Lins, are all sidelined indefinitely.
Similarly to O’Malley, these fighters will only return to action after receiving medical clearance.
